Rutland Herald

Vermont native, Ryan Mangan is a performing arts professional in the fields of acting, opera, concert, magic, and playwriting. With performance credits throughout the North East, he works primarily as a vocalist bringing his "light and expressive tenor" (Rutland Herald) to Barn Opera, Middlebury Bach Concert, Manchester Music Festival, New England Opera Intensive, VOX New England, Opera Connecticut, and Hartt Opera Theatre. He is a frequent soloist at Grace Congregational UCC in Rutland, Vermont and spent two years as a vocalist at Church of the Good Shepherd in Hartford, Connecticut.  
He makes frequent recital collaborations with pianist and composer Alastair Stout having performed Beethoven's An die ferne Geliebte, Vaughan-Williams' Songs of Travel, Ireland's Mother and Childand Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn & Strings. Most recently, he was seen as Spoletta in Puccini's Tosca and as Gastone in Verdi's La Traviata. Mangan has performed as a baroque tenor soloist in Handel's Messiah and J.S. Bach's cantatas BWV 61, BWV 62, & BWV 133.
 
His artistry in song repertoire earned him the highest honors at the Vermont All-State Music Festival, the Dean's Award in the Hartt Vocal Competition, and 1st Place in the VOX New England Classical Idol Competition. In 2022, he was invited to premiere the song-cycle Otter Creek as part of the New Work Series in New York City. Several of his poems have been set to music by composer Felix Jarrar in a song cycle entitled Sea Boy Barcarolles which premiered at Opera America in 2023. 
His full-length play Second Sight; or, The Way of Holiness has been workshopped twice for public audiences and received its world premiere with the Middlebury Community Players in October 2023. Other original works include mind-reading shows HypnoTricks (2015), Inside Your Mind (2016), and a short film called ANIMA (2022). Mangan holds a Bachelors Degree in Music from The Hartt School at University of Hartford. He has worked in theater education and is mentor/coordinator at The Boston Cambridge Institute and Vestra Education.
